Although the difference in price may seem extreme, I highly recommend buying german silver. If you have ridden a horse that is truly in relaxed acceptance of the bit, you understand this value. |

Michelle's BittingTips (i.e. soapbox) You may have noticed that I have nothing more harsh than a full cheek snaffle in my entire selection of recommended bits. There is much confusion about when to use what type of bit and how to gain more control over a horse. Let me shed a little light on this topic: if you can't ride a horse in a snaffle, you shouldn't be on his back. Although in a few cases more bit may be necessary, such as high-level jumper or dressage competition, harsh bits are widely used to compensate for a rider's innability to keep the horse well balanced and light on the forehand. If you feel that you need a twisted-copper wire or Kimberwick, I strongly urge you to seek the guidance of a trainer who focuses on supple, balanced horses, and positive communication. Your horse will thank you! |
